Vancouver Hack Space Lipsync Fix It Night with Makers Making Change
Are you an Electronics Whiz? On July 5th 2018, from 1pm to 8pm, The Makers Making Change team will be at the Vancouver Hack Space with a number of LipSyncs that need some TLC. By volunteering to troubleshoot a LipSync, you help a person with a disability (who may be quadriplegic or have limited use of their hands) gain access to a touchscreen device. UBC LaserCut Keyguards
Makers Making Change is going to host a group of students from UBC Mechanical Engineering at Vancouver Hack Space on Thursday, October 4th from 1:00 - 4:00 PM. The students will be volunteering their time to design keyguards that will be laser cut out of acrylic. Keyguards are often used by people with disabilities to make it easier and more effective to use keyboards and touchscreen devices. View the project here (new window).

Adapted toys are magic for kids with motor issues. It’s true that the toy creates joy and fun for the child, but it’s also the first step towards the ability to control their world. Switch activated toys are incredibly powerful for children with physical challenges. However they are very expensive and often out of reach for families with children with disabilities. Hacking for the Holidays: VHS Toy Adapting
On December 3, from 12:00 pm to 8:00 pm PST, the Vancouver Hack Space will be adapting toys for children with disabilities for this holiday season. Hackers will adapt an assortment of toys like the bubble blower and singing bear. Guests are welcome to bring in a toy they would like adapted for their needs. No experience is required to participate — volunteers will be available to assist makers of all skill levels and tools will be provided on-site.

Vancouver Hack Space – Repair an Adapted Toy night
This is a night where we repair broken assistive technology to help give it a second life. There will primarily be switch adapted toys that aren't working, but may also trouble shoot other broken electronic items such as switches.
