Kevin came to the Neil Squire Society (new window) after a long hiatus from the workforce. Kevin has brittle diabetes (new window) and the unpredictable nature of his health has made it difficult to sustain long term employment. After trying out many ill-suited jobs and being out of the workforce for long periods of time, Kevin was uncertain if he had skills to offer an employer. Boy was he wrong!
Kevin is a quiet, well-educated man; however, even with a university degree and a resume that boasts his international work experience, Kevin had difficulty identifying his skills and strengths. As Kevin progressed through the Employ-Ability Program, others began to see cracks in his quiet exterior. His artistic streak emerged as he expressed himself through amazing drawings and the class were surprised with the humorous stories he shared. Others saw Kevin’s strengths and it was just a matter of time before he saw them himself.
Staff at the Neil Squire Society saw tremendous potential in Kevin, so they offered him the opportunity to do volunteer work. Through this volunteer experience; Kevin was able to demonstrate his skills while working on the Employ-Ability Program, such as punctuality and following through on tasks. Staffs were so impressed with him. The Neil Squire Society saw Kevin’s quality workmanship and offered him a paid work experience. Kevin is now working as the coordinator for the Neil Squire Society’s Walk and Roll project (new window). Best of all, he is beginning to see all the greatness he has to offer the world!
