Worksafe New Brunswick 31st Annual Health and Safety Conference

November 22, 2011

Last month, Worksafe NB (new window) held its 31st Annual Health and Safety Conference showcasing the latest in health and safety products and services. Staff from the Neil Squire Society’s Atlantic region attended the conference as exhibitors. This was a tremendous opportunity for the Neil Squire Society to WorkSafe Logoget the word out about what we do, to expand our network of employer contacts, and to nurture existing relationships like the one with Worksafe NB (new window).

Bev Grasse, Employment Specialist, did what she does best and circulated the convention centre, networking with everyone she met along the way. In total, Bev spoke with over 45 employers, planting the seeds of future employment opportunities for Neil Squire Society clients. Meanwhile, Charles Levasseur, Assistive Technology Specialist, manned the Neil Squire Society booth and shined like he always does when talking about the latest and greatest in assistive technology.

The Neil Squire Society’s presence at the conference was invaluable. We were the only organization in attendance promoting employment services for individuals with disabilities and assistive technology for safety planning and prevention of workplace injuries. While speaking with employers and other conference attendees, it was clear that there is a definite need for assistive technology, both for activities of daily living and on the job, a void that the Neil Squire Society is working to fill.

The potential opportunities stemming from this conference are endless. From fostering new employment opportunities for people with disabilities to delivering seminars on how to use assistive technology to reduce the risk of workplace injuries, the Neil Squire Society has an important role to play.
