A volunteer who just keeps giving

April 23, 2013

Jonas, a recent university graduate, found it hard to find work without more experience. He knew that the best way to gain experience would be by volunteering. That’s just what Jonas did; he created a profile on govolunteer (new window)and that’s where he discovered the Neil Squire Society (new window).

While volunteering at the Neil Squire Society for six months, Jonas was able to further his skills by working with different adaptive computer equipment. What he didn’t realize was that learning and working at the Neil Squire Society would be so enjoyable.

Being able to customize lessons to accommodate the participant’s needs was a lot of fun. I was able to expand my own knowledge and had a great time meeting and working with all the people,” says Jonas.

While volunteering at the Neil Squire Society Jonas found a job at the University of British Columbia (new window) (UBC). He now works in their IT service centre where he provides computer support to the staff, faculty and students. “Munesh, the Computer Comfort Coordinator at the Neil Squire Society, provided me with a great reference for the job at UBC. As a thank you, I brought him a gift card and on behalf of UBC, donated six computers to the Neil Squire Society,” says Jonas.

Thank you Jonas for all your help and continued support!
