BURNABY, British Columbia, December 3, 2013 – Today is the United Nations International Day of Persons with Disabilities (new window) and we would like to recognize Vancity’s 10th Consecutive year supporting people with disabilities at the Neil Squire Society. The International Day of Persons with Disabilities raises awareness of the needs, benefits, and supports surrounding individuals with disabilities. Vancity has become a leader in the community providing people with disabilities with the opportunity to develop computer skills at the Neil Squire Society.
Over the past ten years, with a total of $100,000, Vancity (new window) continues to support the Computer Comfort Program at the Neil Squire Society and assists people in accessing an exciting digital world. Through the development of new technologies, it has become mandatory for society to acquire computer skills. Whether it’s for personal communication, internet research, or an employment necessity, computers have become an extension to everyday life. Vancity and the Neil Squire Society are providing people with the required skills to help remove technology’s barriers, as well as creating opportunities for people with disabilities to continue to be active members in society.
We would like to thank Vancity for their ongoing support during the International Day of Persons with Disabilities and their support to the disability community and the Neil Squire Society throughout the year.
