Steve works as a paralegal in the Lower Mainland. The job is front-facing and services-oriented — he is responsible for producing documents for lawyers that clients need, as well as interacting with clients. He also has hearing loss.
“I’m called up to the till quite often to be a cashier, and most of the time I clearly hear customers while I’m on till, even though both of us are wearing masks and there’s plexiglass between us — that gives me confidence. When they call me for till, I don’t have any anxiety — ‘what happens if I don’t hear them?’ I don’t have that. That’s huge for me.”
George had been working in retail in Victoria and was looking forward to starting a second job, a work from home position as an accessibility tester for digital products. But he needed the right equipment to start his new job.
Denise works part-time as a cashier, but is currently looking for her “ideal job” with WorkBC Employment Services in Coquitlam.
