“I have been provided with a tool so that I do not have to ask someone every single day so I can have my tea or water,” Marie says. “It may seem like a small thing, but it’s a huge gift. You won’t understand until you need it.”
As an occupational therapist working in schools in Summerside, PEI, Anne-Marie Peters has a lot of experience with adaptive switches, and helping the children she works with to use them. So, when a colleague told her about a Makers Making Change event in nearby Charlottetown where she could be making her own switches, her interest was piqued.
Neil Squire has received funding from the Government of Canada’s Accessible Technology Program to develop and release at least four cost-effective, customizable joystick-based alternative input devices through its Makers Making Change program.
Jocelyn from Spinal Cord Injury BC shared this video with us of her new assistive device, the “Magic Plunger,” which helps her reach the dial on her dryer thanks to the Makers Making Change community.
