November 18, 2013

University students come for a tour!On October 25 – 27, 2013, the Neil Squire Society participated in the University of British Columbia’s (new window) hackathon. The event, referred to as a hackathon (new window), allows interested participants to intensely collaborate on selected software projects over a 24 hour time period.

This hackathon focused on addressing the problems of not-for-profit community based organizations. The Neil Squire Society was happy to be one of the organizations selected to participate. Students from the University’s computer science and electrical engineering departments worked on prototypes for a new version on a numeracy program called Speech Assisted Math (SAM). SAM was originally designed in the early 1990’s to help instructors teach math skills to students with physical disabilities. The Neil Squire Society would like to express its appreciation to the University and to the 12 students that participated in the event.
