Project Overview
This project involved the development of a hands-free cordless telephone dialer that individuals could use from their wheelchairs.
A prototype accessible cordless telephone was designed to address the limitations of available “wired” telephone solutions. A small dialer module provided all the necessary telephone functions and was controlled by a single or dual action input switch. The first activation of the switch started an automatic scanning routine down a column of LED‘s and a second selected the telephone function corresponding to a lighted LED. The dialer was designed to piggyback on to a commercially available wireless link that was designed to connect a laptop computer to a household telephone jack. When mounted to a wheelchair, the combination enabled cordless communications anywhere in a home.
