Rebecca is known by coworkers, family members and friends in her town of Middleton, Nova Scotia for her outgoing and friendly personality.
Rebecca has Down Syndrome. She struggled during the COVID-19 pandemic. Rebecca thrives in social situations where she can interact with others and found social distancing difficult.
“Everything was different, it was so hard,” she shares.
While she was staying home and feeling socially isolated, Rebecca increased her meetings with her Working Together program facilitator to focus on her skills for working and to discuss how she was feeling with the changes around her.
They reviewed the typical job skills like time management, getting along with coworkers and talking to employers, but also discussed how workplaces may have changed because of the pandemic.
Looking at the importance of following workplace protocols and customer service were very important at helping Rebecca feel prepared to work again.
“It helped to talk about what was going on, and why the changes were happening,” she explains.
Thanks to Working Together, Rebecca is now working at Bistro 300, a café where she washes dishes, helps prepare food and drink orders and is back to chatting with her customers and coworkers where she can be relied on for a great attitude and help whenever needed.
When not working, she loves cooking, traveling, and modeling. Rebecca’s positive attitude is in everything she does and helped push her through the tough times of the pandemic. Rebecca continues to excel!
