Makers Making Change (new window) has donated 10 dice spinners to the Stan Cassidy Centre for Rehabilitation in Fredericton, New Brunswick.

The dice spinner is a switch activated device that can make any dice-based game more accessible, as it just requires the user to press the switch to effectively roll the dice.

Makers have been building these dice spinners at build events, including a build at the French-speaking school, Ecole Mgr-Martin in Saint-Quentin, New Brunswick, which saw 34 students take part.

The dice spinners have made a big difference at Stan Cassidy, with staff saying that the devices have made it easier for some of their clients to play games with family and friends.

“The dice rollers have been an innovative option for our clients who engage in meaningful leisure with loved ones, but are unable to use hands to roll dice,” says Chelsea Crockford, a recreation therapist with the Stan Cassidy Centre for Rehabilitation. “The switch adapted option allows clients to embrace independent leisure engagement.”

Makers Making Change has enjoyed a strong partnership with the Stan Cassidy Centre for Rehabilitation. Recently, MMC staff have also been building and testing lift and twitch switches designed at Stan Cassidy, which will appear in the MMC device library when ready for release.
