Jason Builds His Confidence

June 16, 2021

As an adolescent, Jason was diagnosed with Anxiety (new window) and Psychosis (new window). Later in life, this affected his ability to maintain stable employment. He can become overwhelmed in crowded and busy environments and uses medication support for this.

In the past, Jason has held a variety of jobs and picked up a variety of skills. He has worked as an ice maker/technician, bakery assistant, and a maintenance/landscape labourer.

Upon the recommendation of his residential support worker, Jason joined the Working Together program in April. His goal was to pursue a career that could offer him the opportunity for personal and professional growth.

As he began receiving employer requests for interviews, his confidence quickly grew.

With the assistance of his Job Developer, Jason had the opportunity to sharpen his interview skills. He also received support in developing a long-term career plan of eventually returning to school to become a journeyman electrician.

A prominent Regina property management company, Lynch Property Services (new window), took notice of Jason. His knowledge and experience made him stand out in the interview, and he successfully earned a full-time Landscape and Maintenance Labourer position.

In this role, Jason has had the opportunity to learn many new skills, including installing complex irrigation systems and learning advanced landscaping techniques. He particularly enjoys being able to perform the majority of his duties outdoors semi-independently, which has improved his ability to feel comfortable in his working environment.

Jason’s employer says, “He is doing very well,” adding that they could not be happier with his work so far.

Jason is very appreciative of the services he has received from Neil Squire, and he has become an outspoken supporter of our organization.

All the best, Jason!
