Hacking for the Holidays Makes a Difference for Jainita’s Family

December 27, 2024

Thanks to your support, we have hosted 84 events, engaging over 2,600 volunteers to adapt 2,058 toys and switches for kids with disabilities across Canada. You helped us reach $125,000, and there’s still time to donate (new window) to help us get to $140,000, supporting our work well into the New Year.

We wanted to share with you a story of the direct impact Hacking for the Holidays made this holiday season:

Jainita’s son was diagnosed with autism and global development delay. Now five years old, he is non-verbal and struggles to express himself.

Through our Hacking for the Holidays campaign, he received a switch-adapted Volcano Lamp toy. He loves his new toy.

“This lamp has been an incredible addition to his routine. We’ve seen him focus on the movement of the beads, and it has truly helped him self-regulate. The colour red, which we know he likes, meets his sensory needs and provides a calming effect, especially before bedtime,” Jainita shares.

“It is only [a] few things that brings him comfort, watching him engage with the lamp has been a heartwarming experience for us,” she continues.

“We’re truly grateful for the difference this small yet meaningful gift has made in his life.”

While the holiday season may be coming to a close soon, our goal to provide children with disabilities accessible, affordable adapted toys continues. We need your help to cross the finish line to our goal of raising $140,000. Any donation made before the end of the year is tax deductible on your 2024 taxes. With your donation, we can continue this program and serve more families into the New Year.
