June 3, 2024 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm PDT

Join Justin Pezzin from the Neil Squire Society on June 3rd, 12 – 1 PM PT, for a presentation on Makers Making Change and Open-Source Assistive Technology. Makers Making Change is a program of Neil Squire, a non-profit organization that empowers people with disabilities through technology.

With a mission to reduce the cost barriers to access to assistive technology, Makers Making Change has developed a community-based Open-Source Assistive Technology development model, the STEM with Purpose education program empowers youth Makers with the skills they need and a Canadian Accessible Gaming resource network called, GAME Checkpoints. In this session you’ll learn more about the Makers Making Change program, how they engage AT Users, volunteers and clinicians during the development process and how the Open-Source Technologies request process works. You will also go on a tour of the Online Assistive Technology Library as well as a live demo of some of the most popular assistive devices.

Justin Pezzin is the program manager of Makers Making Change at Neil Squire Society. The engineer in Justin will always be curious about how to use technology to help others, while the Maker in Justin will forever be designing, tinkering and playing with shiny new things. Merging these passions was a no-brainer and he was already volunteering with Makers Making Change when life lined up to jump into the MMC program with both feet.
