Our Director of Innovation, Chad Leaman, will be speaking at the International Symposium on Rehabilitation Research 2021 about Open-Source Assistive Technology Devices – 3D printing and making access solutions.
Summary:
Makers Making Change connects people with disabilities and disability professionals to makers, who can assist in fabricating assistive technologies from our open-source library of assistive technology (Open AT). There are over 100 devices, designed both by our staff and by our community of volunteers. These devices document where to source parts, provide downloadable 3d printable files, code and assembly instructions. Anyone can build these devices, but we work with students, engineers and other maker volunteers to help build these solutions for people that need assistive technology in their community. http://www.makersmakingchange.com
We have hosted over 100 buildathon events, have 30 Chapters across North America, and deployed thousands of assistive technologies to people with disabilities and disability organizations. We are focusing on building this model to foster social connection, empathy, codesign, and partnerships that cross typical social-economic barriers, providing customized solutions at a fraction of the cost of commercial offerings through action-based philanthropy.
Learn how this program model provides new opportunities to meet the assistive technology needs of people with disabilities.
