Doug Uses His Experience to Help Others

July 23, 2024

Creative Employment Options participant Doug.

Having sustained a C6 spinal cord injury in 1994, Doug had experience in coordinator and management positions in the non-profit sector working with people with disabilities. However, since moving to Lethbridge, Alberta with his family, he faced challenges in securing employment despite actively applying and interviewing with potential employers.

Desiring to transition into full-time employment, Doug joined our Creative Employment Options program after learning about the program through a friend. With the support of Neil Squire staff, Doug received guidance in updating his resume, crafting tailored cover letters, and utilizing strategies to access the hidden job market. He also engaged in mock interviews and developed a wellness plan to enhance his job search skills.

Through his unwavering determination, Doug secured a job developer position with an employment services provider. Armed with the tools and knowledge gained from Neil Squire, he not only met but exceeded expectations with his comprehensive understanding of disability issues, both personally and professionally.

Today, Doug holds a full-time role as a job developer, using his experience to assist others in achieving their employment objectives.
