Computers, the gateway to the world

Diane use to feel like a prisoner because of her injury. She has severe chronic nerve pain that runs from the bottom of her neck, down her arms, and into her hands. The constant pain makes it difficult for Diane to use her arms. To avoid using her arms, Diane started learning Dragon Naturally Speaking (new window), a voice recognition program that enabled Diane to use her voice to type on the computer. Unfortunately Diane found it frustrating to learn Dragon Naturally Speaking on her own. She quickly learned about the Neil Squire Society (new window) and was referred to the Distance Computer Comfort Program.

“I had no goals and felt completely cut out from the rest of the world,” says Diane. “Once I started taking the computer courses through the Distance Computer Comfort Program, I set myself goals. The weekly lessons gave me something to look forward to and opened up my world.”

Diane was receiving workers compensation for her injury. Unfortunately she was unable to continue receiving it. Diane’s injury made it impossible for her to go back to work. So without a lawyer, and with her new found confidence, and new knowledge of Dragon Naturally Speaking, Diane fought an appeal towards her workers compensation and won!

“The Neil Squire Society came at the perfect time. I don’t even know how to say what they did for me. It was life changing because I felt so secluded. Computers have opened up my world,” Diane says with content.
