Chad Finds Career That Matches His Skills

October 18, 2010

Chad was involved in an ATV accident that rendered him paraplegic (new window). He came to the Neil Squire Society’s Job Focus Program to determine what type of career he could obtain. Prior to his accident, he worked as a labourer, however he Job Focus participant Chadhad no identified transferable skills that he could take with him to a new career. With the help of the Vocational Rehabilitation Consultant he investigated several possibilities, including automobile upholstery. Chad learned that although he had the accuracy and knowledge to perform successfully, he lacked the speed that would make him marketable in the workplace.

Chad came to the conclusion that he might be a good 911 operator. He took the necessary training and found that he did have the skills required to do well in this field. After training, including First Aid, he was hired by the British Columbia Ambulance Service (new window) where he now earns a good income.

Good luck, Chad!
