Assistive Technology Services “Has Literally Changed My Life”

February 12, 2020

Jamie is a sales professional based in Kelowna.

It’s a job that requires him to be focused in conversations with clients and staff, something that was becoming hard to do with his hearing loss.

“The decline in my hearing made it very difficult to follow conversations — there were many times I misinterpreted a conversation only to add input that was incorrect as a result,” he admits.

“The amount of energy I expend in a day just trying to listen is mentally, physically, and emotionally draining. I spent a lot of my time making sure I am positioned correctly to use my ‘good ear’ in conversations.”

Looking for solutions, a friend recommended WorkBC Assistive Technology Services (ATS).

Through financial assistance from WorkBC ATS, he obtained the appropriate hearing aids.

“I am more relaxed and I can hear in regular settings at normal conversation levels,” Jamie says now. “I am more aware of how limited my hearing was.”

He now recommends WorkBC ATS to others in need.

“The financial barrier to acquire the technology is real,” he explains. “The support I had in acquiring the correct funding was instrumental. Assistive Technology Services has literally changed my life.”

WorkBC Assistive Technology Services is operated by Neil Squire. Assistive Technology Services are available to individuals who have a work-related barrier due to a disability or a functional limitation. This may include barriers related to traveling to and from the workplace.
