June 7, 2022

Adam has Cerebral Palsy and uses a manual wheelchair. “Sitting for long periods of time causes pain, anxiety and depression,” he says. He joined Neil Squire’s Working Together program to find work, and with his outgoing nature, initially wanted to be a department store greeter.

He also worked with his Case Manager on his resume and interview skills, which he quickly excelled at with his outgoing personality.

Adam was job ready, and his Job Developer began looking for businesses that were wheelchair accessible with positions that involved working with people.

The Boys & Girls Club (BGC) of Moncton (new window) stood out as a great option for Adam. He had previous experience working with children in his past volunteer work with a youth organization, and it would be a great opportunity for the children at the BGC to work with someone like Adam, who used to do speaking engagements educating people on his disability.

The Job Developer approached BGC Moncton, and they were willing to interview him for a summer job. They hired him on a wage subsidy for summer employment. He performed so well in his job he landed a permanent position and continues to work there now.

Adam is very happy with his job and the feeling is mutual — Moncef Lakouas, the Executive Director of BGC Moncton, shares, “We are happy to have him here too.” It was a great match for both!
