Patricia has always been a positive person, but since coming to the Neil Squire Society (new window) she has become more confident. “I’ve always known that there is a job out there for me. After taking classes through the Neil Squire Society’s Distance Computer Comfort Program, more doors have opened, allowing me to go in a direction I want to take,” says Patricia.
Patricia, a quadriplegic, is only capable of taking classes online and in the comfort of her own home. The Neil Squire Society’s Distance Computer Comfort Program was the perfect fit for her. She would like to find a job but is unable to go to work every day. With all the new technological advancements she knew she would be able to find a job that allowed her to work from home.
Patricia has been perfecting her computer skills for the past three years. “It was a slow start at first, but after I really got going, I moved right along,” says Patricia. She had been using a voice recognition program called ‘Dragon Naturally Speaking’ (new window)to help with her online learning. “It is an amazing program and very helpful. It opens up a whole new world for a lot of people.”
As Patricia’s journey continues she remains positive and productive. Her goal is to find funding to support her through Simon Fraser University’s (new window)online editing certificate. Patricia finishes her story with some very inspirational words – “Never say never. There’s always a way. It’s just a matter of continuing on to find that way. The Neil Squire Society is a great place to start!”
