For Nancy, it was a treat to finally meet her trainer, Erin, in-person at our Moncton office.
“I really enjoyed going to meet with Erin,” Nancy says.
Nancy is a participant of our Digital Jumpstart program, and has been taking virtual computer lessons with Erin from the comfort of her home on Prince Edward Island.
Digital Jumpstart offered her a chance to update her computer skills, touching on a variety of topics including using Bluetooth technology, creating slide shows, and using Microsoft Excel, and Survey Monkey.
“We work on what I feel I need help on,” she shares. “[Digital Jumpstart] helped me a lot, because now I know how to do things a little bit easier.”
Nancy has been employed for over a year at her current job. (“I never thought I was going to be able to work after I got my visual disability,” she shares, noting that she had found a temporary job that became permanent when she impressed them with her work ethic). She has a great employer, and consults him on things that she can learn through the program that would be helpful at work.
Through Digital Jumpstart, she received a brand-new laptop, keyboard, headphones, and a computer monitor.
“I highly recommend [Digital Jumpstart] to anybody who has a disability,” she says.
And when the chance came up to do a special lesson in-person, Nancy jumped at the opportunity. It was great to meet the trainer who’s been such a help.
“Erin is so great. I don’t think it’s like a job to her,” Nancy shares. “Erin’s making it easier for me to try to do things I didn’t think I could do.”
