Digital Jumpstart Provides Brooke With Computer Skills for Her Promotion

March 9, 2023

Brooke, from Regina, Saskatchewan, was happy to share her experience with Digital Jumpstart:

a woman using her laptop“I was interested in updating my computer skills for employment and my mom recommended I contact Neil Squire for support.

Growing up I was always athletic, and I enjoyed playing sports. I played Ringette and I caught on very easily however in school some classes were harder than others. Some things just did not make sense to me as they would to other kids. I am most impacted by my disability when learning new things. I require explanation and repetition to catch on and I need things explained to me more than once to really catch on.

I learned so much new information in the Digital Jumpstart program and I am now more knowledgeable about how computer applications work, especially Microsoft Excel and Google Sheets.

Prior to the program, I just knew the basics of computers, but now I know my computer skills and understanding have improved. I enjoyed learning something different in each class and having the opportunity to practice from home was especially helpful. I learned so much information about Microsoft Excel and Google Sheets, which was my main goal. I did not require any adaptive technology and I had access to my own laptop.

The Digital Jumpstart program has helped me learn how to work with Office programs, and I was able to learn how to use Excel and Sheets effectively and efficiently.

I was promoted to assistant manager at my job, and I am already using my computer skills at work.

I appreciated the opportunity to work one-on-one with a supportive instructor. I enjoyed meeting on Zoom and having the flexibility to work on learning materials at my own pace. I now know how to access computer programs, and I know more about file management, which benefits my job at work.”
