We are very excited to announce that we will be at RESNA’s 2019 Annual conference (new window) during RehabWeek 2019 between June 24 – 28 in Toronto, Canada, to learn and discuss the latest developments in the field of rehabilitation technology. We will also present the results of one the projects that we have been involved with during the past year.
The Mapping Physical Access Solutions to Broadcast Television project researched which assistive technology devices are compatible with TV set top boxes and the consumer electronics that control set top boxes like home automation hubs. People with disabilities often have problems figuring out if their existing assistive technology will work with a specific service. The results of this study strive to eliminate much of the confusion and frustration by testing the devices for them. This project was funded by Broadcasting Accessibility Fund (new window).
We have tested and documented the compatibility of the main Television Broadcasting features of set top boxes with some of most popular assistive technology devices including the Lipsync (new window), Google Home (new window), and Tobii Dynavox Eye-Tracking devices (new window).
We are hoping the results of this study can help users and occupational therapists to make the process of setting up the common AAC or assistive technology devices with television set-top boxes go more efficiently and smoothly.
You can learn more about this study and the results during RESNA’s 2019 Annual Conference. Harry Lew (new window), our Manager of Research and Development will be in Toronto during RehabWeek 2019 to present and explain the results.
