Located in Saskatchewan’s boreal forest, Montreal Lake Cree Nation (new window) has been operating for over 40 years. Currently, they have over 130 staff working in two communities, while serving over 4,000 community members.
Rachel Stewart is the Employment and Training Specialist at Montreal Lake Cree Nation. She heard about the Neil Squire Society through the Gary Tinker Federation (new window) in La Ronge, northern Saskatchewan.

Rachel learned about the Neil Squire Society’s Working Together program, which helps people with disabilities develop the skills they need to achieve their employment goals. The program offers individualized plans or a group-based learning environment.
“I was contacted and informed about the wage subsidy initiative and I was excited to get involved in it,” says Rachel. It was a good match. Some Working Together participants who had completed the program were looking for jobs, while Montreal Lake Cree Nation had a few positions to fill.
Rachel describes her experience: “The hiring process went very smoothly. We interviewed people who were recommended for the positions by the Neil Squire Society’s Job Developer in Regina. The interviews went well and we hired them on.”
She adds, “I have loved working with the Working Together program, it was simple and easy to work with. I look forward to future programs and partnerships with the Neil Squire Society.”
