Makers Making Change Update: Disability Needs Survey Results

November 29, 2018

Thank you to everyone who took the time to fill out our Disability Needs Survey (new window). Here are the major takeaways:

  • Almost 80% of the respondents were interested in AT centred around mobility; about two-thirds were interested in devices assisting with agility/dexterity, and over 50% were interested in cognitive aid devices
  • The most popular general area needs include: education (over 80% of respondents), eating (approximately two-thirds), employment and grooming (between 60-65% each)

The areas of highest need were: mounting solutions, gripping and holding solutions like in our low-tech AT kit (new window), and switches. We’ve started exploring low-cost switches, and will follow up with a detailed switch-specific survey.

Thank you again for your time. We’ll be sharing some specific project requests soon. Meanwhile, please feel free to fill out the Disability Needs Survey (new window) if you haven’t already. We’d love your input to better inform our development.
