Orlee Finds a Good Fit with Working Together

February 7, 2018

Orlee was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis (opens in a new window) (MS) in 1994 and severe hearing loss in 2012. When she has an MS flare-up, she experiences a loss of mobility and vision. Additionally, she feels fatigue as well as pain in her back and feet at all times.

Orlee, Working Together participantWith an educational background in education, psychology, and early childhood development, Orlee had worked as a teacher and principal for many years until her MS required her to leave that employment area.

Now, Orlee was seeking new employment opportunities, potentially in administration or retail. She was referred to the Neil Squire Society by Spinal Cord Injury Saskatchewan (opens in a new window), and joined the Working Together program at the Prairie Regional Office.

Orlee worked with her Job Developer to explore a range of opportunities. They narrowed down on part-time employment, which would be more manageable due to her MS symptoms. Her Job Developer also helped her update her resume and write customized cover letters.

Orlee applied to a number of jobs and was invited for several interviews, which gave her the chance to practice her skills. She persevered and secured a customer-facing position at Cabela’s, a retailer of hunting, fishing, camping, and outdoor gear.

The most valuable part of this program has been the work-related modules such as mock interviews and composing cover letters specific to the jobs that I am applying for,” she says.
